How to run RMCTools on a Mac

RMCTools does not run natively a MAC. However, RMCTools can run on a Mac with the help of other software programs. Here are some options:

  • VMWare Fusion
Run VMWare’s Fusion product to create a virtual maching with a Windows operating system. This requires purchasing both Fusion and Windows.
  • Other Virtual Machine products
Run another virtual machine product such as Parallels or VirtualBox. This still requires a Windows operating system.
  • Crossover

  • Wine
Wine’s guide to installing on the mac: http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Installing. This does not support USB, but does support Ethernet and serial.

We have had one person show up for RMC100 training with a Mac laptop that had a power pc. He had Virtual PC installed and it ran RMCWin with no problems.

I really do have a Mac Pro with VMWare’s Fusion for my work computer. It works well but I have 4 GB so I can provide 2GB to the virtual machine. It supports USB and Ethernet very well. The Mac doesn’t have serial ports. I haven’t tried using a serial to USB cable yet.
