Hello, I have an RMCTools Application from 8 years ago. once I get online and upload the controller, it is telling me that the Software version I am using now is a higher version than what’s in the controller, so that differences will still be seen. Am I still going to be able to do everything I need, or do I have to upgrade the controller firmware?

You should be able to do everything you need. RMCTools is fully backwards-compatible. If you simply re-download the project, it should clear the differences and work as usual. I do recommend saving a backup just in case.
