The RMC150E and RMC200 motion controllers do not natively support serial RS-232 or RS-485 communication but can communicate to serial RS-232 and RS-485 devices by using a third-party serial-to Ethernet converter.
The serial device must support Modbus/RTU or Allen-Bradley DF1.
Here is how to communicate with the RMC75E, RMC150E, or RMC200 via serial communications:
- Choose your protocol, either Modbus/RTU or DF1. These are the only ones supported at this time.
- Purchase a converter for your protocol:
-
For Modbus/RTU (RS-232 or RS-485)
Buy the Spectrum Universal Industrial Gateway. This gateway can communicate with the RMC via Modbus TCP and convert to a variety of protocols including Modbus/RTU. See the Using the Spectrum Universal Gateway.pdf for more info. -
For DF1 (RS-232 Only):
Buy the RTA 515RTAENI Serial-to-Ethernet converter (https://www.rtautomation.com/product/515rtaeni-n34/). You may need a null-modem cable and gender changers. Read the attached document “Using the 515RTAENI” of info on setup with an RMC75E/RMC150E.
Delta has tried these converters and found them to work well.
