RMC150E and Serial RS-232 Communications

The RMC150E can communicate to serial RS-232 and RS-485 devices by using a third-party serial-to Ethernet converter.
The serial device must support Modbus/RTU or Allen-Bradley DF1.

Here is how to communicate with the RMC150E (or RMC75E) via serial communications:

  1. Choose your protocol, either Modbus/RTU or DF1. These are the only ones supported at this time.
  2. Purchase a converter for your protocol:
  • For DF1 (RS-232 Only):
Buy the Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-ENI serial-to-Ethernet converter (http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/pp/1761-pp003_-en-e.pdf) for roughly $550. You will probably also need a null-modem cable and a couple gender changers. Read the attached document "Using the 1761-NET-ENI.pdf"for info on how to set it up for use with the RMC150E.
  • For Modbus/RTU (RS-232 or RS-485):
Buy the Lantronix UDS1100-IAP serial-to-Ethernet converter for roughly $153. You will probably also need a null-modem cable and a couple gender changers. Read the following document for info on how to set it up for use with the RMC150E “Using the Lantronix UDS1100.pdf”

Delta has tried both of these converters and found them to work very well.
